The two Stoma Associations in South Australia are exploring the possibility of amalgamating into one new Association.

Members can be confident that they will still continue to receive all the services that are currently provided. In fact, joining the two Associations together will enable services to be improved and the range of services expanded.

At the moment, both Associations operate on a small financial return most years. With our operating costs increasing and no increase to our 2.75% handling fee from the government, it will be very difficult for both Associations to remain viable into the future. One option is to substantially increase membership fees and we don’t want to do this, as it would have a concerning impact on some members.

A second option is to explore the possibilities of amalgamation. This would enable us to build a more viable future through economies of scale and improvements to services.

There is a lot of work to do to create a new Association and we will be looking for feedback from our members to ensure we can create the best Association possible. After all, the Associations only exist to serve their members to the best of their capabilities, whilst remaining financially viable

You can also be assured that the two Associations are working together in a positive way to explore this possibility. It is a joint effort and the Boards of both are committed to ensuring better outcomes for our members and improved services for all South Australian ostomates, including country members.

Both Associations are planning to be in a position in early 2023 when they can call a Special General Meeting of their members and provide full and clear information to enable a Motion to be put to members about a possible amalgamation. There will be no change to your Association until a Motion is accepted.

In the meantime, if you have any concerns, comments or would like further clarification, or if you have suggestions about the services an amalgamated Association could offer, please contact the President of your Association.
